A Dual Oriented Room
Individual Work | Summer 2019

The movement of people is always confined by the nature of gravities. Ramps and stairs are two traditional creations in order to realize the free flow in vertical spaces. Breaking the restrain of gravity, a room with dual readings of orientations is created.

In this 30’x30’x40’ room, ramps and stairs are inserted into the space, leading two circulations with two orientations in dualism. Two apertures on the facade work as entrance and exit portal. The stairs guide one circulation path of this room while the ramp guides the other circulation path. Two circulation paths connect two portals and provide both vertical and horizontal reading of this room.

People standing in two orientations are separated at the entrance of the space and finally lead to the gathering as they walk through stairs or ramps, standing at two orientations at the exit portal.
