An Urban Market Hall
Site: Toronto, Ontario
Individual Work  |  Fall 2018

This market hall is conceived as a junction of urban circulation and urban market culture. It is a junction to attract and show, to reconnect and remix distinct cultural districts. The openings are maximized and extended in various directions, aiming to increase its visibility and attractiveness from the surrounding area.

Located between three well-known cultural districts of downtown Toronto (Chinatown, Queen West, Kensington Market), the market culture has been around in this area for a long time. Market here is ever-present and ever-transforming.

  Concept

Featured programs extracted from three cultural districts are remixed and rearranged in this place, creating a continual space of intercultural communication. By blurring the interior and exterior boundary, the whole building becomes the middle of in and out, being a market and an urban promenade.
